Poor whites in recent southern fiction
Robertson, Sarah
Authors
Abstract
Poor white characters have appeared throughout southern fiction in a number of guises. This article examines the ways in which contemporary depictions of poor whites challenge earlier one-dimensional accounts of this economically disenfranchised group. Central to the discussion is a consideration of the changing nature of southern studies to a reconsideration of poor whites.
