Clara Greed
Christianity and planning: Pentecostal churches, occasional paper
Greed, Clara
Authors
Abstract
This occasional paper investigates the problems that churches have in trying to get planning permission. Particular problems arise in the case of ethnic-minority churches, including African-majority churches in London. A range of examples are given in terms including the saga of the KICC mega church. Issues of change of use, development zoning, transport and access, and architectural style are discussed. It is concluded that 'religion' comes relatively low in the pecking order in terms of 'material considerations' in respect of equality and diversity issues.
