Abstract
Automotive manufacturers are facing increased pressure from more stringent emissions legislation and new legislative driving cycles. This creates a need for increased simulation capabilities. An engine simulation was developed in Ricardo WAVE, and was coupled with lower fidelity Ricardo IGNITE to enable the investigation of emissions and engine performance over different driving cycles. The simulation was validated against experimental engine emissions and performance data, obtained from the test cell, with good agreement. A provisional simulation using a 100 % bio-fuel yielded promising results that agreed with similar studies; thus enabling the impact of future renewables on emissions to be evaluated.
