Airborne artificial intelligence in the wild

Abstract
MAVs, UAVs, Drones, Quads, call them what you will. A set of technologies has converged to cause a breakthrough in capability and cost, which has created a new industry and colossal interest from many parties who see both opportunities and threats.
The laws of physics have not changed, so this revolution has been enabled by developments in avionics and “systems” (the sensors and actuators that link avionics to the real world). Ironically, these same technologies are now the limiting factor in performance and reliability, and further progress will require the adoption of some of the methods used by conventional (usually manned) aircraft. This talk shall examine these key drone technologies, how they differ from their more complex and expensive cousins, and how they might evolve in the future.
