Following a successful bid, this UWE research event was funded by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) and was designed specifically for early career researchers/doctoral students.
Ms Katie Joyce, (UWE) chaired the event and it was co-delivered by Associate Professor Harriet Shortt (UWE) and Professor Katrina Pritchard (Swansea University).
A participative online workshop opened up space to explore the key principles and practice of digital methodologies. Presenters shared insights into their own experience of utilising digital methodologies when undertaking online research. Three core areas for discussion in the workshop included:
• The use of blogs and micro-blogging in work-based fieldwork
• The use of Instagram to collect visual and text-based data, participant-led photography and photo-elicitation
• The use of visual research methods (examining digital and online media)
Artist Jenny Leonard also joined the event. Jenny specialises in visually capturing live events – she tracked conversations throughout the event using live illustration, helping to keep content engaging and insightful. Digital copies were made available to participants after the event (and posted via social media channels using #DigitalMethods2021) to help extend reflective practice beyond the event itself.
