Abstract
Historically, Italian villages/towns were cultural, economic and social centres. Works of Architecture such as theatres, markets and churches were only some of the elements that characterised their urban complexity. Nevertheless, the contemporary culture has posed profoundly different socio-economic challenges (i.e. a new demographic structure, the production and availability of new technologies, and migration phenomena). Inevitably, this has had spatial implications (i.e. Italian villages/towns in the state of abandon). The City Space attempts to reduce the gap between urban pre-existences and new socio-economic dynamics. In this, the Italian villages/towns become urban stages of everyday life. The use of an architectural module underpins this temporary project. It translates urban sequences (i.e. urban voids, volumes and links) into a temporary architectural space. On the one hand, the module questions notions of flexibility, accessibility and adaptability which affects visitors’ experiences. On the other hand, the module investigates its materiality and building technology (e.g. the employed materials are 100 % recyclable while easy to transport and assembly). The City Space pavilion, therefore, embodies a paradoxical contradiction which is peculiar to the contemporary human condition.
