Abstract

This paper is divided into three parts. The first part of the paper identifies a new and emerging terrorism funding model via cryptoassets and social media platforms – the Social Networking Funding Model. The paper enhances the understanding of the ineffectiveness of Defence Against Terrorism Financing (DATF) Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to terrorism financing via both cryptoassets and social media platforms and the paper critically appraises the potential extension of the voluntary exchange of information model to payments made via cryptoassets and social media platforms.
