Abstract
Zero Waste, an exhibition of artists’ books curated by Sarah Bodman and Eve Kask; UWE, Bristol, Bower Ashton Library, 20/09/19 & Estonian Academy of Arts Library, Tallinn, 01/11/19 - 20/03/20
Zero Waste alludes to responsible lifestyles, ending waste and a concern for the future of the planet. The exhibition’s artworks not only feature themes related to pollution and nature conservation, but also place equal importance on valuing human relationships.
Last spring, the second-year students studying graphic arts at the Estonian Academy of the Arts (Mark Hiir, Brit Kikas, Maria Izabella Lehtsaar, and Liis-Marleen Verilaskja) invited interested members of the Artist’s Book Club from the Centre for Fine Print Research in Bristol, England to collaborate on the theme of ‘Zero Waste’. The topic was decided on during a joint session and the main issue was: What common denominator would most engage the students?
The following students from the Department of Graphic Art participated in the exhibition: Pille Alasi, Valentin Alizer (France), Kristiina Avel, Emilia Furs, Mark Hiir, Karin Ird, Brit Kikas, Margus Kontus, Maria Izabella Lehtsaar, Ott Lemsaar, Siim Lootus, Liina Loper, Ann Pajuväli, Anette-Lis Seppel, Liis-Marleen Verilaskja; as did the following students from the Department of Graphic Design under the supervision of Monika Maidre: Meeri Kabur, Kristjan Kesküla, Anita Kossareva, Liisi Lasn, Arvi Piir, Anni Mari Rohumäe, Martis Roosimaa, Oskar Tikka, Tuuli Velling, Linda Vainomäe, Ulla Väljaste.
Artists’ books from UWE Bristol in this exhibition are by Beatriz Leonardo, Niamh Fahy, Zelda Velika, Chrystal Cherniwchan & Sarah Bodman, Stephen Fowler, Gen Harrison.
