This workshop is part of a wider study of architectural education, positioned at a pivotal time of change, exploring the current and future outlooks of schools of architecture. It is not just about understanding current practice, but also looking ahead and exploring the opportunities for innovation, radical thinking, and new models of education fit for all. This research aims to gain deeper insights into the current perspectives of educators regarding the necessary reshaping of architectural education to confront current and future global challenges.
The research aims to provide insights, tools, and a pedagogical primer to foster innovative approaches to architectural education, and to care for its future. As part of this study, we aim to investigate how innovative thinking about architectural education globally can inform better curriculum design and pedagogy fit for a rapidly changing built environment. This workshop will be one of a series taking place as part of the research. During the event, participants will be presented with the findings from a contemporary literature review. This will be used to open up a facilitated conversation that will have a number of open questions to capture insights from different perspectives. Whilst exploring these questions, participants will be asked to physically draw some of the insights discussed. From the open-ended questions, the discussion and the participants drawings / diagrams, conclusions will be drawn on how architecture is currently taught and assess as well as identifying the knowledge, skills and attributes that curricula currently delivers as well as the gaps specifically identified by students and industry.
