Abstract

Supported by an ARLIS Research Award, a knowledge exchange project between UAL and UWE Bristol was initiated to integrate technical and making literacies with librarian-led object-based learning frameworks.

We define materials literacy as: the ability to think critically and make informed and balanced judgements about the materials we encounter, source and select. It empowers us as citizens to contribute to a more sustainable society by developing our understanding of material origins, properties and environmental impact.

This workshop will briefly summarise the project's outcomes, which include resources for facilitators to help learners explore and experiment with materials. Participants will engage with activities and materials, and practice facilitating these activities, empowering them to incorporate these resources into their teaching.
