Abstract
Solo exhibition cycle of a suite of paintings, each measuring between 167 x 120cm - 244 x 301cm. Extending his critique of the artist's prototypical working environment O'Kane's suite of large-scale paintings 'Studio In the Woods' consists of views of architectural interventions, some based on modified existing architecture (Frank Lloyd Wright, Lacaton Vassal, Alvar Aalto and Elam and Bray) and others that are fictional, which examine where the man-made meets with nature, where the intellectual artifice intersects with the 'natural' world.
'Studio in the woods' was initially shown in Frankfurt (2003). An extended show - including newer pieces - was staged in Dublin, (2003) and then selected by the board of the Campus Galerie to be shown in Bayreuth, Germany (2004). Each showing was accompanied by a catalogue with essays: 'Overlook', texts by Claire Doherty and Padraig Timoney, published by Galerie Schuster, 15 February 2004 Berlin ISBN 3-934545-07-6 2004; 'Studio in the Woods', text by Mike Fitzpatrick, published by Campus Galerie, Bayreuth, Germany 2004.
Studio in the Woods was reviewed in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 21 July 2003; Brenda McNally 'Building a Successful Career' The Sunday Tribune, 7 September 2003; Aidan Dunne, Irish Times, 23 September 2003.
