Abstract
The fight against climate change is a long battle that is far from won. Negotiations and formal agreements on climate change have been conducted for decades and targets have been set to impose reductions in greenhouse gas emissions on governments and large industries. In addition, citizens have begun to explore ways to participate. After focusing on protests to try to pressure stakeholders and states that are the biggest polluters, they recognized that the fight against climate change will lead to better results if we change our economic and productive systems also in our daily lives, changing our lifestyles. This article explores three types of climate change activism expressed through urban agriculture (AU). Through 'proximity', 'disruptive dissent' and 'participatory urban governance', this article looks at how AU, as a form of climate change activism on the ground, can help take action, taking illustrative examples from two European green capitals: Bristol in the UK and Lisbon in Portugal.
