George Orwell's 1984 was published 75 years ago. 40 years separate us from the date of the vision of the world presented in this disturbing work - a vision of the future in which citizens of the state are subject to total control by dishonest and criminal authorities. Utopias, futuristic and catastrophic visions usually demand confrontation with reality after many years. Only then can we say whether they were accurate or wrong.
The indicated anniversaries raise questions: Has this vision been fulfilled, and to what extent? Do we currently see its manifestations and effects? How do we react to the evidence of its realisation?
What do we feel when we take Orwell's book 1984 in our hands today? How can this work be changed, supplemented or corrected so that it better fulfils its mission of fighting control?
An exhibition of artists' books inspired by editions of George Orwell's "1984" from various language areas, submitted to the international competition of the Art Book Museum in Łódź "Orwell's World 2024".
