Abstract
This paper presents a detailed analysis of operational emissions and energy use for Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs) under the evolving EU7 regulatory standards, which are expected to be implemented by 2027. By focusing on the emission profiles of key pollutants, including Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Total Hydrocarbons (THC) during the operational phase, this study highlights the significant impact that Electronic Control Unit (ECU) adjustments can have on emissions reduction. The research demonstrates how these technological modifications, combined with the forthcoming EU7 standards, lead to substantial environmental benefits. The findings show that CNG vehicles, under these tighter regulations, exhibit a marked reduction in NOx emissions, thereby outperforming their Diesel counterparts in terms of environmental impact. This assessment emphasizes the critical role of evolving regulatory frameworks and technological innovations in advancing sustainability within the transportation sector. The insights from this study are crucial for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and environmental strategists as they work to optimize emission control measures and enhance the overall environmental performance of HDVs. Furthermore, the research contributes to the broader discussion on sustainable transportation technologies, stressing the importance of continued progress in vehicle emissions control and operational energy efficiency under regulatory frameworks like EU7.
