Abstract
Welcome to the Iron Towns, a fictional region in the English midlands. One of the cradles of the industrial revolution, now in seeming permanent decline. The novel gives a portrait of the region, its communities and folklore and follows the beleaguered football club across one season, focussing on the life of Robert Corwen, club captain, who, among other things, is having a history of football tatttoed across his body.
