Abstract

The image has been created for the publication 'Left Cultures' as a response to the article titled 'Ragged Cinema' by Núria Araüna Baró and David Archibald. The image-making process combines artificial intelligence and printed matter to capture the tone of the text, which explores the relationship between experimentation, imperfections, and the formulation of conceptual proposals."

The publication Left Cultures is a contemporary space to champion all kinds of voices on the Left, whether that be Socialist, Communist, Anarchist or anything in between. The Left has always been fizzing with ideas to change society and Left Cultures celebrates the Left’s cultural past, discussing gems of storytelling within film, literature, music, art and poetry.
Ragged Cinema is a film collective based in Catalunya and Glasgow established in 2021 by Núria Araüna Baró and David Archibald. During the lockdown they made a short film, shot on phones in their respective home cities, Glasgow and Vilanova i la Geltrú in Catalunya, which explored how activists and academics might work at distance to develop creative conversations through dialogical filmmaking. In 2022, they were developing a documentary project on sites of memory and the Spanish Revolution when they were distracted by the possibilities of working with feminist activists in Cuba, Catalunya and Scotland that formed the article titled Ragged Cinema.
