Football has always been rooted in working-class culture and celebrated within working-class communities. Criticism of today’s game typically focuses on the capitalisation of some leagues, and football’s growing distance from its own roots. This article examines the opportunities for collective class solidarity and identity, and acts as a reminder how social class can shape pathways within and beyond the beautiful game.
