Abstract

This chapter sets out the current picture in terms of transport and mobility behaviours across different social groups, drawing from a wide range of literatures to explore the concept of transport energy justice in different contexts, and using the UK as a case study to demonstrate how this affects different individuals’ ability to access key destinations, and thus becomes an issue of social justice. Its overarching intention is to identify and situate transport energy justice in the context of the wider energy justice debate. The chapter has the explicit intention of identifying potential social vulnerabilities and risks in the move towards the government’s Net Zero 2050 targets for the transport sector, in order to begin a dialogue about personal travel budgets for future social inclusion in the light of the necessary behavioural transitions.
