Additional Information | Additional Information : This monograph has been widely reviewed. Gordana Rabrenovic, in European Journal of Communication 2006, 2, stated: 'Estella Tincknell's book offers a comprehensive analysis of 'representations of the family and its complexities. Her knowledge of popular culture is extensive and her choice of examples enriches her theoretical discussion. The only shortcoming of the book may be that it will inspire the reader to watch more television.' Rosalind Gill, in International Journal of Cultural Studies 8 (4), indicated: 'Mediating the Family' is incisively written 'The book is valuable for bringing together a range of different sources about post-war life and media, and for conveying a sense of the profound shifts in gender relations in the last few decades.' The research on which the book was based also gave rise to an earlier article with Tincknell as lead author: Estella Tincknell, Deborah Chambers, Joost Van Loon and Nicola Hudson 'Begging for It: 'New Femininities', Social Agency and Moral Discourse in Contemporary Teenage and Men's Magazines', Feminist Media Studies, Vol. 3. No.1, 2003, pp 47 -63, which has received 8 citations, and was third most frequently downloaded article in Feminist Media Studies in 2005. |
