Abstract
Employing participant observation, the paper offers analysis of Bristol’s Festival of Age, 2008 and traces the ways in which participants are positioned within a configuration of nostalgic, regulatory regimes that position them as a) passive bodies b) docile bodies c) disabled bodies d) feminine bodies e) white and (working) classed bodies. The paper argues that participants resist the position of abjection through an overdetermined respectability that simultaneously reinstates the dynamics of class.
