Abstract

The Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England is involved in research into many forms of print related making - from 19C techniques to present day 3D digital technologies.

This presentation aims to reveal a progression of research stemming from an initial investigation into a long lost ceramic relief technique that led to the generation of two projects, involving the development of digital methods for casting and glazing photo-ceramic tiles and the freeform fabrication of 3D ceramic objects.

The presentation will be in two parts:
Research Fellow David Huson will give an overview of the evolution and progression of the research including the spin offs into various artistic and industrial applications.
The project PhD student Brendan Reid will discuss his part in examining the material qualities and sculptural objects how the research fits into the wider context of art and design practice.
