Abstract
Overview
Technological developments within nuclear medicine has provided the basis for the emergence of new operating paradigms, techniques and working culture. The development of new professional identities and interprofessional relationships has become evident in fields such as cardiology and oncology. The provision of a post graduate hybrid imaging module develops the nuclear medicine practitioners (NMP) knowledge, understanding and clinical value of emerging techniques and technology optimisation.
Methodology
Following the completion of a post graduate hybrid imaging module, two NMPs from separate cohorts were invited to complete an informal log, using reflective techniques harnessed from the module assessment framework. The NMPs documented particular aspects of their working practice in relation to skills development and service development within a hybrid imaging environment. Both NMPs were involved in the development of new clinical services, requiring changes to working practices and skills development.
Results
The reflective logs were evaluated using thematic analysis, in order to highlight key skills development areas and possible future training requirements. The reflective logs identified the on-going training needs of NMPs within a hybrid imaging environment and the emerging interprofessional relationships.
Conclusion
The use of reflective logs aids in the on-going development of NMPs working within an emerging imaging modality.
