Abstract
The basic rationale for this programme evaluation is to provide information to inform future action and decision making i.e. it is as much about making future improvements as it is about checking impact and progress to date.
By understanding which aspects of the training programme worked well, we can share this information to:
• Improve practice within individual schools
• Develop new and better ways of working
• Shape policy at school, local, regional, national and international level.
We see it as a ‘participatory evaluation’ where we (the researchers/evaluators) collaborate where possible with the range of stakeholders involved, such as:
• Principals
• Teachers
• Parents
• School managers
• Government Officers
• The wider community
It considers the potential measures of success for the programme, in particular the extent to which the original objectives for the training programme were met and the impact it has helped to initiate at school and community levels.
However, we are not necessarily looking for, or expecting, clear improvements in terms of performance statistics, but we are interested in identifying indicators of success and improvement following changes to personal and institutional practice and action research projects.
