Abstract
This report is the second phase of research into the English Experience of Soft Densification and builds upon the quantitative data analysis undertaken in phase I. Adopting an intensive qualitative case study approach two local authorities, the London Borough of Ealing and Bristol City Council, are considered in detail. Ealing represents a suburban area that experienced concurrently significant soft densification and de-conversion of existing stock in the period 2001 to 2011, whilst Bristol over the
same period experienced a high level of housing growth.
