Authors
Abstract
Maria del Carmen Gil Ortega, Senior teaching fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK, Senior Lecturer in Innovative Pedagogy and Programme Leader for the Masters in Education in Virtual Worlds at the Education Innovation Centre of the University of the West of England. Her background is in Languages and Linguistics with a strong emphasis in technology enhanced teaching and learning. Fascinated by the opportunities that immersive virtual environments offer to enhance the learning experiences of students, and in order to provide valid and innovative alternative solutions to some of the challenges encountered in traditional educational practices, for the last eight years Maria del Carmen has been undertaking research on the affordances that these technologies have for teaching and learning and designing learning experiences that would be difficult, dangerous, financially costly, in some cases unethical or just impossible to recreate in a face-to-face educational environment.
