Abstract

This paper explores the notion of multicultural music therapy as defined by Hadley (2013) and Mahoney (2015) and how the practice of this can impact on music therapy training. Through the lens of her own practice, the author critically and reflexively attempts to examine her own assumptions and how this may impact on her music therapy training practices, including recruitment of students for training places, and working with diversity during the training. Drawing on both clinical and research work she aims to illuminate areas for consideration and discussion which, although particularly relevant for music therapy practice, can extend beyond these parameters.
