Abstract
This chapter examines the implications of multilateralism (section 36.1), the need for policy harmonisation at the international and national level (section 36.2), the influence of north-south dynamics in biodiversity conservation (section 36.3), the role of the non state-actors (section 36.4), the true nature of public participation (section 36.5), and the complexity of balancing various competing interests in the CBD regime (section 36.7). The chapter ends with a brief note on some of the future research challenges of biodiversity conservation (section 36.8).
