Delivering environmental protection through local authorities

Abstract

This presentation considers the role of Local Authorities (LA) in providing environmental protection. It adopts a historical perspective focusing upon the role of LAs before considering changes in the capability and competency to deliver environmental protection in a decade or more of austerity. The role of local authorities in managing air pollution is used to exemplify past, contemporary and potential future LA roles.
