Abstract
ABSTRACT
A novel dry fibre architecture has been developed in order to improve the ductility of high-performance composites. Micro-wrapping of high-modulus fibres with high strain (to failure fibres) resulted in a unique structure that is capable of delivering ductility without significant stress-drops. This paper presents a detailed experimental investigation of fibre architectures including side-by-side, micro-wrapped with single and double helix wrapping. Influence of matrix ductility on the composite laminate ductility has also been investigated.
