Abstract
In this introduction to the Sudanese documentary film 'Talking About Trees', Sobers brings the storyline to a Bristol context. He charts Bristol's own history of professional Black filmmakers, and argues that making films alone is no longer enough. For filmmakers passionate about representation and social justice, we have the responsibility to also consider how the work will be seen and archived, making our work accessible for future audiences, creatives and researchers. A failure to take care of this aspect of the city's filmmaking history, will see the narrative of 'Talking About Trees' played out closer to home.
