Tree cover is an issue which has prompted protest and activism in Bristol, as limited access to green space and clean air exacerbates racial and class inequalities. This chapter offers first an overview of local issues and social action, then considers a range of non-fiction texts which centre the experience of trees, from their interconnectedness via fungal networks to their use by humans as cultural and public health resources. We propose that the analysis of perspective in these texts can build young people’s eco- and socio-critical literacies, and their awareness of how to write with a sense of place in nature.
