Arcadia Id Est: artists' books, nature and the landscape

Abstract
Curation of a touring exhibition of 120 artists' books on the themes of nature and the landscape. Arcadia id est toured to 10 venues; Australia, Cyprus, The Netherlands, UK, Eire and USA, March 2005 to November 2007. Tour was launched with a talk by Dr Stephen Bury, British Library on 19/03/05. A one-day symposium with talks by 6 artists was organised by Bodman on 15 April 2005 with handling of the 120 books. Symposium attended by 50 curators, artists and academics (talks can be downloaded from the Arcadia website at www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/arcadia.htm).
40 visitors came to a free �Day in Arcadia' with the 120 books, UWE, 12 January 2007. The exhibition tour has included related events arranged for each venue; Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and Washington University Libraries, Missouri (19 March 2007-13 May 2007) Arcadia panel discussion, 05 April 2007, speakers: Sarah Bodman; Sandra Kroupa, Book Arts and Rare Books Curator, University of Washington; Beth Meyer, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, University of Virginia. Arcadia and the Metropolitan landscape - student workshops with Jana Harper and Jane Wolff for associated exhibition 02 April 2007-18 May 2007. Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, USA (31 May 2007 � 3 July 2007). Guided Exhibition Tour and Talk by Laurie Whitehill Chong, Special Collections Librarian, Curator of Artists' Books -26 June 2007. A six-week programme for BOOKS.07 The search for the impossible (24 August 2007 - 30 September 2007, Noosa Regional Gallery, Queensland, Australia) was arranged around the Arcadia id est exhibition's visit- with workshops, related exhibitions and Interaction.07 Symposium (1- 2 Sept 07). Bodman also presented a talk by DVD Exploring Arcadia (2 September 2007). Arcadia id Est has been reviewed in the US journal Afterimage Vol 34, No 6, pp 26-27.
