Abstract

Exhibition of a room sized sculpture and audio tour mobile application for Android and iOS.

The sculpture is a recreation of an imaginary Influencing Machine based on a seminal account of famous bedlam patient James Tilly Matthews from 1810. The sculpture is 10m x 10m x 6m is made from oak, brass and leather.

The mobile application puts the user inside James Tilly Matthews’ psychosis as they encounter the installation.
The Air Loom is often cited as the original account of an influencing machine and echoes contemporary reports of pervasive control and governmental conspiracy.
