Abstract
This article aims to bring reflections to the clinical practice, focusing on the relationship with otherness, based on the experience of working with immigrant children in the city of São Paulo. Considering that in contemporary times, children are increasingly challenged by objectifying discourses, this work aims to reflect on how these operate at the intersection with discourses on immigration and how they affect clinical practice. To this end, this study will resume the discussion of childhood as a historical, social and political category and will analyze specific discourses on immigrant children in the context of school and mental health. This analysis contributes to the debate on listening in the clinical practice, in which we emphasize the reflection on otherness and the importance of considering the social context of the subject, as well as the ideal of childhood that is at stake, in its relationship with the categories of gender, race and class, and immigration.
