Abstract
The current accepted latin name usage of each three species drops the subspecies category for Lissotriton vulgaris vulgaris and Lissotriton helveticus helveticus when discussing the species in the United Kingdom to Lissotriton vulgaris and Lissotriton helveticus. However, the subspecies name should ideally be used when discussing the two newt species in a European context due to further discoveries of a number of subspecies of these two species in parts of Romania and Spain that are now spreading.
