Abstract

Co fundraiser and collaborator. Exploring some of the areas and communities that make up our city. The podcasts are filled with fascinating insights into the history of our communities; from the man who grew up as a young boy in Barton Hill during the Blitz, to the local shopkeeper who has been serving the community for years, to the woman who found sanctuary and a home in the city. These are the human stories that are so often overlooked.

Additional Information Each of the 12 episodes will focus on a particular Bristol neighbourhood – Barton Hill, Knowle West, Lawrence Weston, Easton, Fishponds, Hartcliffe, St George, Hillfields, Southmead, Eastville, Stockwood and Avonmouth. The podcast was produced in partnership with Bristol 24/7, Bristol Museums, Bristol Archives, UWE Bristol and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Marcus Smith, who helped to create the series, explained that “many of these areas are often overlooked or stigmatised. So we have created something to change perceptions and share unique local stories. This new podcast is for Bristolians, welcomed newcomers and future generations to come.”
