Abstract
In a Land of geological uplift, thousands of years of cultures, and new waves of corporate and state investment in a space for settlement and the extraction of natural resources, this paper examines the social phenomenon of moving houses, and other buildings, in northern Sweden.
In a moment of further, increasingly intensive investment in mining, forestry and urban growth in this region, predicated on an underlying, and seemingly largely uncontested agenda of ‘development’, what counter conceptions and representations of space, built artefacts, and architectural work are possible through the idea of de-growth? The concept of re-use, and the minimal use of resources, raises important conceptions on the practice of construction and architecture.
