Abstract

The chapter consists of the role of Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (CRHTTs), seen sometimes as the last bastion of crisis management before psychiatric hospital admission. When warranted, an important caveat, in that exploration will touch upon a greater tolerance towards risk and crisis severity than perhaps other services, the crisis of a patient is ideally stabilised (Lombardo et al., 2019). Discussion will explore in more depth following the previous chapter, about enriching collaborative care, including with significant others. This will involve, despite underreported in the UK literature, the value of the Seven-Stage Crisis Intervention Model, as a means of working towards crisis resolution (Roberts & Ottens, 2005).
Medication management and lessening risks associated with mental distress will also be discussed. However, in keeping with the theme of the book, this will be through the lens of participation, noting the importance of patient voice in what risks and care needs are notwithstanding organisational restraints, while also being an opportunity for personal growth and renewal. That is not to underplay the distress of the crisis, rather through approaches that touch on recovery-based principles; the chapter will illuminate care that is inclusive of personal needs with pharmacological approaches. This is alongside accommodating the liminal state of the crisis consisting of uncertainty about which direction patients take next to reclaim their lives (Boland, 2013). In addition, because CRHTTs tend to be at the forefront of crisis care, complexities will also be discussed surrounding referrals, and in consonance with collaboration, how CRHTTs can assist and guide other services to support an individual in distress.
