Abstract
Lazy Eye further explores Stevens' interest in memory, place and personal identity. Set in 1960's pebbledash suburbia the film draws on substantial research into location, personal memories and the bleak de-saturated aesthetic of Lynne Ramsays' early films and the work of Polish director Kieslowski. The production of this film was made following a residency at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School where Stevens worked in masterclass on production design, lighting, sound and editing.
Lazy Eye won the HTV South West Award at Brief Encounters Short Film Festival, 2003. It was selected for, and shown at, the Rotterdam Film Festival, 2004.
As a result of her work on the suburban, Stevens was invited to join the AHRC-funded 'Landscape and Environment' network: Living in a Material World: A cross-disciplinary location-based enquiry into the performativity of emptiness (October 2006-July 2008) with colleagues from the University of Bristol, University of Aberystwyth and UWE PLaCe research centre (Gough, Biggs, Doherty).
