Additional Information | Additional Information : This co-written book is addressed to scholars of the subject, particularly postgraduates and academic peers. It offers a critical overview of the various methodological traditions informing Cultural Studies as well as substantial original work on the theoretical frameworks that have shaped the field. The exploration of cultural materialist and semiotic forms of textual analysis, for example, draws specifically on Tincknell's own research into popular texts and genres, later developed in the monograph, Mediating the Family, while the discussion of the problem of the dominant in cultural theory contributes to the book's complex reorientation of cultural studies. The book drew on the work of all of the authors as contributors to a Ph.D. research methods programme at Nottingham Trent University. It was reviewed in Sociology, 2006, Vol. 40. No. 4, p. 756: 'The team of writers are careful to respect the different and sometimes entangled dimensions of cultural analysis (it is a) fabulous text'. Nick Stevenson. |
