Additional Information | Additional Information : Politicians and Rhetoric: The Persuasive Power of Metaphor (2005) analyzes the rhetoric of six British or American politicians and shows how metaphor is employed systematically in the creation of political myths. Metaphors are shown to interact with other figures of speech to communicate subliminal meanings by drawing on the unconscious emotional association of words. This monograph is an innovative corpus-based study that has responded to growing interest in the relationship between language, persuasion and ideology. The following comment is taken from a review ?The introductory and concluding chapters provide a theoretically informed account of the rich rhetorical processes in the speeches in the corpus?. A hardback was released by Palgrave in 2005 and a paperback version in 2006. (Reviewed in Applied Linguistics 2006 27, 4: 762-766). |
