Additional Information Additional Information : Home Ornaments is the collective name for a group of objects created by the artist Daphne Wright to be presented to individual owners of new flats built during the recent redevelopment of the Gorbals in Glasgow. Unusually, Wright's work conceives of the public arena as knowledge and narrative - and the way in which this circulates amongst us - rather than as any form of physical space. Home Ornaments was created to function as much through a secondary life of anecdote and argument as it was as objects. The publication contains two essays. "Shelf Life: A Pocket Encyclopaedia" by Francis McKee is an alphabetical primer reflecting the idiosyncratic mix of voices and references that provided the context for the artist's conceptual process. Simon Morrissey's critical essay explores Home Ornaments' distinctive relationship to debates around 'context' and 'art in the public realm', focusing on the reception of the work, and the contentions over aesthetics, meaning, value and ownership of the work generated. Morrissey led panel discussions on the theme 'Autonomy versus Context' at Arnolfini, Bristol on 21 February 2007.
