Additional Information | Additional Information : Refereed conference paper, given at 85th Textile Institute World Conference (Concept to Consumer) Colombo Sri Lanka, 1-3 March 2007. The paper demonstrates Stoyel's research in replacing conventional textile processes with more environmentally friendly use of ultrasound. Drawing on prolonged practice-led research she examines the use of ultrasonic vibration as an alternative method of garment construction. Using practical examples, conventional garment shapes and silhouettes are assessed for suitability in ultrasonic processing, and samples of threadless seams, stitch and surface decoration are offered up for analysis and critique. This paper forms part of Stoyel's ongoing research since 2002, which has been disseminated globally at such symposia as Eco Textile 04, The Way Forward for Sustainable Development in Textiles, 7-8 July 2004, Manchester; Iade Instituto De Artes, first international meeting of science and technology of design, 25-26 September 2003, Lisbon, Portugal; 'Decorative Textiles of the New Millennium' conference, Textile Society of America, 9th Biennial Symposium 2004, 7-9 October; 'Appropriation, Acculturation, Transformation', conference paper given at Intermesh Symposium, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia 19 March 21 March 2004, published as ISBN 0-9645106-5-0.
