Salter, Lee
Authors
Abstract
The paper resulted from a conference on the work of philosopher, Alasdair MacIntyre. It considers MacIntyre’s distinctions between institutions and practices in the context of media organisations. It considers journalism as a practice and argues that media institutions struggle to provide the goods needed for excellence in journalism with a social purpose, proposing Independent Media Centres as examples of “organisations” dedicated to pursuing social goods.
