Abstract
This interview explores the pandemic from the perspective of Doc Society, the lead body for UK documentary film funding. From the outset of the crisis to the formation of the Screen Sector Taskforce and the launch of the BFI Doc Society SOS Fund, the interview explores the key challenges the virus posed to the sector. It addresses Doc Society’s view of the crisis not only as the lead body in the UK but also one of a handful of internationally networked documentary support funders, and investigates the various initiatives launched as a result, including the formation of the UK Doc Group – a sector-wide body comprised of support organisations from across the screen industries. Sandra Whipham is one of Doc Society’s five Directors and leads all the organisation’s UK-facing activities. Lisa Marie Russo is the BFI Doc Society Fund Executive and leads the Doc Society Fund team.
