Abstract
Participating artist in year long Arts Council funded research project lead by Phyllida Barlow to establish a working environment where a selected group of [16] artists could engage with the processes of making artwork with no prerequisite outcomes. The impact on artists due to the persistent emphasis on the commodification of the art object was addressed through workshops, discussions, debates, seminars. An ignorance of how art becomes made and how artists work – what artists do - is prevalent at all levels of art, from secondary school through to high level retrospective exhibitions at international venues. The participating artists in the project did not all necessarily agree or support this contention and were have been appointed with this in mind. November 2007 – December 2008.
