Abstract

The aim of this research study is to investigate the development of a reflective capacity within undergraduate business and accounting education. In particular, it focuses on how work-based placement learning might support, encourage or inhibit the development of a reflective capacity. Funded by both the Higher Education Academy and the charitable trusts of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), it seeks to inform educational practice in both higher education and the accountancy profession.Sections cover: background and rationale; the development of a relective capacity; aims and objectives; research approach and context; key findings; the relevance of these findings to the education and training of ICAEW students; the implications of these finding for the design of the ICAEW learning environment; and directions for future research.
