Drone avionics

Abstract
MAVs, UAVs, Drones, Quads, call them what you will. These machines are in the news a lot at the moment, and usually for all the wrong reasons. However, one thing is clear: a set of technologies have converged to cause a breakthrough in capability and cost which is creating a new industry, and colossal interest from many parties who see both an opportunity and a threat. This talk examines the vast difference between the avionics in the consumer drones that we see everywhere, and those for conventional (usually) manned aircraft. Why are they so cheap and so easy to operate, whilst conventional aircraft so expensive and demanding? What is their potential, and their limitations?
