Abstract

Recently, immigrant entrepreneurship has earned more attention in countries which are not popular destinations for migration such as Norway, Denmark and Sweden. This chapter presents a literature review on influences of immigrants from emerging economies and developing countries on immigrant entrepreneurship in Sweden. The findings of the literature review indicate that cultural, ethnic and structural influences of immigrants from emerging economies and developing countries are embedded in immigrants’ entrepreneurial activities in Sweden. Values from emerging economies and developing countries that the immigrants bring with them when moving to Sweden intertwine with the Swedish context which influences the ways and motivations of immigrant entrepreneurs running businesses in Sweden. The findings further suggest that the family plays an important role in businesses owned by immigrants from emerging economies and developing countries. A family is involved in different aspects of the immigrants’ businesses. The chapter concludes with suggestions for future research in examining immigrant entrepreneurship in Sweden.
