Abstract
Non-medical prescribing (NMP) is a key aspect of a rapidly changing NHS. There is now a wide variation in the utilisation of NMP to modernise services. NMP needs to be considered within all service specifications, where medicines are prescribed or supplied to ensure optimal use of the available skill mix. Consequently, prescribing responsibilities have shifted from the traditional medical preserve to a multi professional model involving nurses and other practitioners. NMP involves practitioners who have undertaken and successfully completed a NMP training programme, as defined by legislation, and who are registered with their professional body. This article outlines the development and implementation of a preceptorship pack for newly qualified non-medical prescribers (NMP’s).
